Video: It’s the New Rihanna!

But seriously, right? hahah At first I just thought it sounded like her, then I actually looked up the band and according to Wikipedia: “Cover Drive are a four-piece band from Barbados consisting of Amanda Reifer, T-Ray Armstrong, Barry “Bar-Man” Hill and Jamar Harding. They have gained commercial success in the United Kingdom. The band was signed by record label Global Talent, a division of Polydor Records. The band obtained one of its major breaks by performing as an opening act during Rihanna’s Loud Tour.[1][2][3] [4] The band were featured in upcoming promotions by the Barbados Tourism Authority, an international tourist-marketing agency of the Barbados government.[5][6] The group released their debut album Bajan Style on 7 May 2012 in the United Kingdom peaking at number 14. Lovesick Riddim is Cover Drive’s comeback single and is due for release on September 8th 2013.” So like actually…they are the new Rihanna.

Music: Lana Del Rey’s Mysterious New Short Film ‘Tropico’

Lana Del Rey has been making abstract announcements via Twitter about a new film called “Tropico.” I think I read somewhere she always wanted to be an actress too, but who knows. It’s going to be a 30 minute film and it’s going to be “in a city near you,” she says. The pictures indulges us in the names of those involved including that one albino model Shaun Ross and also big time producer Rick Rubin, and photographer Chuck Grant, whom Lana Del Rey has worked with before (because it’s actually her sister!!!). Directed by Anthony Mandler, it looks like it’s not really a movie, it’s just a really long music video for her three upcoming songs: “Body Electric,” “God’s and Monster’s,” and “Bel Air.” ONLY TIME WILL TELL.

Music: Robin Thicke Covers Icona Pop’s “I Love It”

Apparently it won’t let me embed :( so watch here. Ok, I’ll admit it, I’m impressed. Especially with all the buzz about Blurred Lines being “rapey” and what not, this is a pretty good showcase that Robin can sing in addition to run around with topless girls. He took a summer jam – a pretty repetitive, beat reliant one – and made it soulful. Props to you. Also I want to apologize to everyone if you actually keep listening to the videos that come on after including the “Spanglish” version of Beautiful by Miguel and Mariah Carey. Why? WHYYYYYYY?!
